Jordan 22 Description
The Air Jordan 22 was inspired by F-22 Raptor Strike
Fighter, when you look at the F-22 Raptor you see the light camo spots sharp
aerodynamic cuts that can cut through the air like ice. Some of the
characteristics of the F-22 can be seen on the Air Jordan 22.
Jordan Brand has used the Independent Podular Suspension (IPS) on the Air Jordan
XX1 and with the success they have also
Air Jordan XX2 Sampleused it on the Air Jordan XXII.
Unlike the past model using IPS the pods were a little difficult to remove, so
on the Air Jordan XX2 the pods are square with a little tongue to pull them out.
Also the interchangeable Zoom Air pod is double stacked, which reduces the
cushioning hardness.
Early samples of the Air Jordan XX2 had vents on the heel with stitching
starting at the heel running almost through the toe box. Samples also had a
removable strap, but Michael did not like the look of the strap so this was
dropped. The shank plate is made from thermoplastic urethane which is also
coated with paint containing metallic titanium.
The Air Jordan 22 is cutting edge from all angles. The Air Jordan XX2
features an innovative design, unbelievable comfort, and powerful performance.
Style and Inspiration:
Like prior Air Jordans, the design of the Air Jordan 22 was inspired by a
work of art off of the court. Previous models were designed after such things as
Michael’s own Ferrari, the X-15 fighter jet, and even the P-51 Mustang. The Air
Jordan XX2 took inspiration from one of the most advanced fighter jets in the
world - the F-22 Raptor.
Like Mike, the F-22 Raptor is equally as threatening offensively as
defensively. Combine the F-22’s speed of 1600 mph as well as being a stealth jet
and you have paralleled qualities Mike had on the court.
The design of the upper has sharp lines which takes inspiration from the
sharp maneuverability of the F-22 Raptor. The Air Jordan 22 features zig-zag
stitching similar to that of the F-22 which helps conceal the jet from enemy
radar. On the shoes, this stitching helps provide a well produced shoe with
lasting quality. Lastly, one cannot miss the distinct yet stylish 3M reflective
material on the back of the shoe which lights up the court in the lowest level
of light.
